Hello

Holistic Voice Coach | Award-Winning Vocalist | Creator of Sing Therapy

I'm Heather,  a holistic voice coach,  committed to helping adults find confidence and freedom through singing. Whether you're a complete beginner who’s too nervous to sing out loud, or someone revisiting your voice from a fresh perspective, you're in the right place!

Meet Heather-Maîr Thomas FTCL

I trained at two of the world’s leading music conservatoires – the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban) in London – and was awarded my Fellowship (FTCL), Licentiate and Diploma in 1992. My classical studies included opera, French and English song, choral work, German lieder, music history, languages and movement – a rich foundation that continues to inform everything I do today.

Over the years, I’ve coached hundreds of singers – from anxious first-timers to seasoned professionals and well-known performers including David Tennant, Matt Willis, Andy Bell, Katherine Ryan and Dori Sakurada. I’ve also worked with groups, charities, media organisations, record labels, and even the NHS.

My Musical Life

I’ve always loved singing in many forms – from opera to folk, jazz to pop. I’ve worked as a soloist, recording artist, arranger and voiceover actor, with credits spanning from the English National Opera to BBC drama and commercial studio sessions. Back in the 80s my eclectic work included singing with Gang of Four on The Old Grey Whistle Test, and appearing as a Blue Kang in Doctor Who!

In 1992, Dame Cleo Laine and John Dankworth awarded me the “Allmusician of the Year” for my ability to cross genres with authenticity – a moment that launched my vocal career in all sorts of beautiful and unexpected directions.

My Roots

I come from the beautiful Cornish village of Newlyn – a place famous not only for its fishing but also for its extraordinary light and thriving artistic community. I grew up in a musical family, surrounded by harmony and the joy of spontaneous song. Singing was simply part of life – in chapel, at parties, down the pier and in the pub.

My sister used to call me “a proper little Julie Andrews” when I was small, belting out songs from Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. But my real heroine was Marni Nixon – the hidden voice behind the stars, singing from the studio without the need for the spotlight.

But my voice work is rooted in something deeper.

After losing my sister and both parents by the age of 30, singing became my sanctuary – a way to process emotion, reconnect with joy, my roots and come home to myself.

The Sing Therapy Approach

know from personal experience how powerfully healing our voices can be - and I believe everyone has a right to their voice, whatever their history.

Sing Therapy  has developed over 30 years as my expertise as a teacher and holistic coach has grown.

It is a unique blend of vocal training and holistic practice. It includes breathwork, vocal toning, sound healing, gentle movement, journalling, and mindful self-reflection – all woven together with proven vocal techniques from various voice modalities, from Bel Canto to Natural Voice.

My qualifications in Life Coaching and Clinical Hypnosis support the safe, empowering space I create for my clients.

Whatever your story, I believe your voice matters. It’s about more than just “sounding better” – it’s about feeling secure, authentic and joyfully connected to your voice and yourself.

Sing Therapy is more than your voice.

The Heart of My  Coaching Work

Today, I work internationally, based in London, teaching in person, online and on retreats in Cornwall and Italy,  supporting clients on their journeys through vocal development, personal  and creative exploration.

With 30 years' experience doing the work I love, my approach remains the same: gentle, encouraging, and grounded in deep listening, expertise and holistic care.

I campaign against voice-shaming and love helping people rediscover their voice – whether it’s to sing to their child, join in at a gathering, or simply feel heard.

And if you’ve been feeling afraid to sing, I want you to know – it’s never too late, and you are absolutely not alone.
